CREATIVE CRITICAL REFLECTION 2

HOW I DISTRIBUTED MY FILM TO MY AUDIENCES

                               MY TARGET AUDIENCE

In order to identify my distribution strategy I needed to research and identify my target audience. I created a profile of my target audience using commonly popular interests for teens around the ages of 15-20 into a collage. I based my audience profile on the way which professional brands define their audience, such as Sky, NME and Bauer Media.

                                    HOW I POSITIONED MY FILM

DISTRIBUTING BIG BUDGET FILMS

I created a visual collage of the different ways of marketing and advertising a movie, in this case, the popular movie, 'Emma'. I included elements such as:
-Film Posters
-Trailers (YouTube)
-News reports/reviews
-Social Media Platforms (e.g Instagram, Facebook)
-Personalised Merchandise
-The Film Website

Film Posters:
These are used to visually advertise and attract members of the public. They briefly reflect what the film is about and usually contain small amounts of information such as the release date of the movie, or the starring cast. The poster for this particular film is nicely simple, however effective due to containing all helpful details (directors, release timings, where it can be viewed..) for it's viewers.

Social Media Platforms:
E.g Instagram, Facebook, twitter.. these all are useful platforms for companies advertising their productions, as they're able to sell their film through exposing small clips and images which can catch the public eye. In this production, there are both Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts which all display the film, aiming to exhibit and appeal to the target audience.

News Reports/Reviews:
These usually contain statements and opinions from the public or popular influences who may impact ones decision to watch this. Furthermore people may look at these websites to understand more about the film and can influence the public to watch if the reviews are positive and encouraging.

Merchandise:
Producing merchandise which relates to the film can help promote it and catch the public eye, and interest them in watching their film.

Film Website:
A film website is a convergent hub that can promote and inform the public on what the film is about and contains, and any additional information which could potentially attract audiences. For example on this website, it displays each platform it is available to view on, as well as a category with all the cast and crew on. If well known actors/actresses are included, this is an excellent way of influencing audiences as they may enjoy their previous productions so may be curious to watch them in this new one.

Trailers:
These short videos summarise the movie's plot and aim to create interest within the audiences to inspire them to watch.

DISTRIBUTING INDEPENDENT FILMS: BAIT
The BFI distributes new independent features and classic re-releases across the UK and around the world. From Bait's film website I learned about the film festivals where it was screened, how to view it, what its marketing materials were made up of, its USPs etc.

The BFI (British Film Institute) are a television and film charitable organisation, promoting films and shows in the UK.

The film 'Bait' is a British drama based in Cornwall, featuring Edward Rowe who plays as a struggling fisherman who deals with tension between the locals and tourists from a Cornish fishing village.
The production 'Bait' was screened at the Berlin International Film Festival on the 9th of February 2019. It can be accessed to watch on BFI Player, All 4, BFI Player Amazon Channel and Virgin TV Go. When released, it was promoted on various platforms and materials such as via social media (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook), Websites (https://www.baitfilm.co.uk), Posters and Merchandise.

I investigated how a micro budget film tackled distribution issues that I might face myself. My presentation in 'Canva' is about Mark Jenkin's Bait. I wanted to make a presentable slideshow of information relating to distributing the film 'Bait'.
